What’s The Difference Between An Unabridged And An Abridged Certificate?

There are two different types of marriage certificates, which can seem confusing to some. Each certificate has a purpose.

Abridged marriage certificate –

In fact, you most likely already have a summarised form of the marriage certificate in your possession as it is usually presented soon after a marriage. This notably includes details about your marriage, such as the name of your spouse(s) and when and where you got married.

Unabridged marriage certificate –

This certificate includes a lot more information, including full names, identity numbers, nationalities, marital status, and places of birth of both spouses. It also contains details of the marriage itself, like the date and place, and is signed by the marriage officer. This certificate is more detailed and often required for legal and official purposes.
