Frequently Asked Questions
Is Police Clear a legitimate service, and do you submit directly to the department?
Yes. Police Clear (Pty) Ltd is a registered South African company with offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg. We are a document facilitation service: we prepare, submit and collect applications on your behalf, working directly with the relevant department. We do not issue the certificates ourselves. SAPS issues police clearance certificates, Home Affairs issues civic documents, and DIRCO handles apostilles and legalisation.
Why does your price differ from the official SAPS fee?
The official SAPS fee for a police clearance certificate is R190, and that portion is paid to SAPS. Our fee is separate and covers the work around it: checking your documents before submission so the application is not rejected, submitting in person, tracking progress, correcting problems if they arise, and couriering the finished certificate to you. You are paying for the handling and the turnaround, not for the certificate itself.
Is the outcome guaranteed?
We guarantee our part of the process: correct preparation, submission, follow-up and delivery. We cannot guarantee the result of a criminal record check, because the outcome is determined by the department’s records, not by us. If an application is rejected for a reason we can fix, such as fingerprint quality or a document error, we deal with it.
How long does it take?
Turnaround depends on the service and the tier you choose, and the department’s own processing times vary. We quote a timeframe up front and we consistently meet it, with roughly 80% of cases completed sooner than the timeframe we communicate. Contact us for the current turnaround on your specific service.
Can I apply if I am living outside South Africa?
Yes. A large share of our clients are South Africans abroad applying for visas, emigration or overseas employment. The requirements differ from a local application, particularly around fingerprints and delivery, so it is worth speaking to us before you start.
What documents will I need?
This varies by service. Most applications need certified identity documents and, for police clearance, a set of fingerprints taken on the correct official form. Requirements change depending on your situation, including maiden names, previous IDs and where you are applying from. Send us a message and we will tell you exactly what applies to you.
What is the most common reason applications get delayed or rejected?
Poor quality fingerprints, incorrect or uncertified copies, name mismatches between documents, and using an outdated form. These are the errors we check for before anything is submitted, and they are the main reason applications sent in independently come back rejected.
Do you handle anything besides police clearance certificates?
Yes. We also handle criminal record checks, criminal record expungement, DIRCO attestation and apostilles, sworn translations, vehicle clearance certificates, unabridged birth and marriage certificates, qualification verification, and visa application support.
